Cactus Leaf
180_8051-300.jpg

Creative Notes

At first glance, this photograph’s subject matter is not at all evident. It is very organic in appearance but in a very alien way. While walking near Bet Jamal Monestary in Israel, I noticed the fascinating patterns formed in the cactus leaves when they dried, bent and cracked in the sun. Each one was different and presented a myriad of shapes and textures.

Technical Notes

The series of photographs from which this image is drawn, were taken without the aid of a flash. I had a very narrow depth of field to work with. Black and white was chosen to bring out the textures in the plant and some cropping and levels adjustment were applied.
